The vision for what’s “Wicked” dates back to when two five-year-old boys walked into their first slot car race and blew everyone’s minds with fully customized “vehicles.” Those two little boys—Chuck Anderson and Benny Mahoney—have since spent a lifetime working together, climbing the ranks from mechanic’s assistant and detailer, to service and body shop managers, then finally as successful co-owners.
After drafting plans for their first joint venture on a napkin in 1999 (Precision Body Works), then seeing it through to a business that churns out more than 300 cars a month as one of Richmond’s premier collision repair centers, and producing several eye-popping custom restorations, in 2013, at the strong beckoning of car enthusiasts and would-be clients, Wicked Rods & Customs was born. The passion of this duo lives on, but boy have they come a long way from slot cars.
Defining “Wicked”
So, you may ask: “What exactly is Wicked?” Wicked is lifting a 1950s classic off its frame and stripping it down to bare metal, then chopping two inches off the top, because those two inches are what it takes to achieve a specific vision. Wicked is custom engineering that classic—not only to blow the doors off of any and everything, but to get 25 MPG’s all the way to California and back—all with the modern comforts of electronics and air conditioning. Wicked is about rolling into a sea of a thousand show cars and walking away with the top trophy. Now that is truly wicked.
